Retrofitting to Improve Indoor and Outdoor Air Quality in Commercial Buildings

Electricity generation is a major source of air pollution in Hong Kong and buildings eat xc% of the electricity generated. There is huge potential to retrofit some 42,000+ existing buildings to reduce free energy consumption whilst providing a salubrious indoor environs for occupants.

A recent study undertaken by the Constitute for the Surroundings at HKUST examined the energy consumption and indoor environment in a existent-case commercial part building with a retrofitted heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. Retrofitted measures included a sensor-based building direction arrangement, dehumidification of outdoor air, and a ii-stage particle filtration system.
